Is í an Ghaeilge (.i. Gaeilge na hÉireann) an teanga Ghaelach a labhraítear in Éirinn. Teanga náisiúnta agus príomhtheanga oifigiúil na hÉireann is ea í. (Tá an Béarla luaite sa Bhunreacht mar "theanga oifigiúil eile".) Ar an 13 Meitheamh, 2005 d'aontaigh airí gnóthaí eachtracha an Aontais Eorpaigh an Ghaeilge a ghlacadh mar theanga oifigiúil oibre san AE. Beidh feidhm leis an stádas seo ó 1 Eanáir, 2007.

Tá go leor ainmneacha eile réigiúnda nó stairiúla ar an teanga freisin: Gaedhealg, Gaedhilge, nó Gaedhilg (i gConamara), Gaedhilic nó Gaeilic (in áiteanna i Maigh Eo), Gaedhealaing nó Gaoluinn (sa Mhumhain), Gaedhlag (Ó Méith – Ard Mhacha agus Lú), Gáidhlic (in Alba), agus Guithealg nó Goidelc (Sean-Ghaeilge). Go minic, níl i gceist leo seo ach litrithe malairteacha ar an bhfocal "Gaeilge" agus iad ag baint leis an tréimhse réamhchaighdeánach (féach thíos chun a thuilleadh eolais a fháil), ach tabhair faoi deara gurb iondúil inniu a úsáidtear an leagan Muimhneach d'ainm na teanga, Gaelainn, le tagairt a dhéanamh do chanúint an chúige ina gcluinfeá an t-ainm seo uirthi. D'fheicfeá Gaoluinn, leis, toisc gur mar "é" fada a fhuaimnítear "ao" an litrithe sna canúintí deisceartacha.
